‘Magic Mushrooms are the world’s safest drug,’ – and why this headline is problematic

Magic Mushrooms have been proclaimed the safest recreational drug in this years recently published Global Drug Survey.

The headline is obviously catchy but could be potentially misleading to youngens who haven’t experienced the illicit cuisine first hand.

From swirly colours, to suicide and 6 hour panic attacks there is more to the statistic than a brief read of a Facebook headline would suggest.

What are the ethical responsibilities of reporters when it comes to sharing drug facts?
